Our Approach to Science
We want our children to be excited, curious and investigative learners. Science stimulates pupils’ curiosity about the world around them and enables them to satisfy their curiosity with knowledge. We approach Science through a range of practical and investigative experiences and this engages our learners at many levels.
Scientific method is about developing and evaluating explanations through investigations, experiments and gathering evidence. This allows our children to think, explore, discover and be hands on with their learning. Through science, pupils understand how major scientific ideas contribute to technological change – impacting on industry, business and medicine and improving quality of life. Pupils learn to question and discuss science-based issues that may affect their own lives, the direction of society and the future of the world.
Inline with the new primary curriculum our science scheme follows the broad areas of physics, chemistry and biology strands with exciting science topics. We link Science creatively with other subject areas through our topic based curriculum and embed the other core subjects through discussion, debate, investigation and experimentation.
We enjoy lots of fun investigations in our science learning!
This is year four finding out about the effects of different liquids on our teeth. They submerged eggs in vinegar, tea, coke, orange juice, water and milk for a week; closely observing them each day and checking for staining, cracking and colour changes.
