Safeguarding Statement
Our Commitment to Safeguarding
At Ducklington CE Primary School, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is our highest priority. We are committed to creating a safe, nurturing environment where every child can learn, develop and thrive.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility here at Ducklington CE and we work together as a whole school community – staff, governors, parents and pupils – to keep children safe.
What is Safeguarding?
Safeguarding means:
- Protecting children from maltreatment
- Preventing harm to children’s health or development
- Ensuring children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
- Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes
Safeguarding includes keeping children safe at school, online, in the community and at home.
How do we keep children safe at Ducklington CE?
Staff training and awareness
All staff and governors receive safeguarding and child protection training at induction, which is updated regularly and at least annually. This ensures everyone in our school community knows how to recognise signs of abuse or neglect and understands their responsibilities. Our training covers: recognising different types of abuse and neglect, online safety and protecting children in the digital world, The Prevent duty – protecting children from radicalisation, child-on-child abuse, mental health and wellbeing concerns, and local safeguarding issues relevant to our community.
Daily Safeguarding Practice
We keep children safe every day at Ducklington CE by maintaining a vigilant and caring staff team who know the children well. We create an environment where children feel safe to speak up and teach them about safeguarding, including how to stay safe online as part of our broad and balanced curriculum. We also follow robust safer recruitment procedures when appointing staff and maintain secure premises and appropriate supervision for the children. We work hard to ensure the children know how to raise concerns and how any concerns will be handled.

We work closely with:
- Oxfordshire Safeguarding Children Board
- Children’s social care services
- Police and health services

Supporting Parents and families
We recognise that parents and carers play the most important role in keeping children safe. We encourage you to talk to us if you need support or have concerns. We want to work in partnership with you to safeguard your child and help your child understand how to keep themselves safe, including online. We can offer support and also signpost you to additional services where needed.
Teaching children to keep themselves safe
We provide an open forum for children to discuss potentially sensitive issues through our curriculum, including relationships and health education, online safety lessons, PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education) and through Collective Worship themes and discussions.
Children learn how to recognise when they feel unsafe, the difference between appropriate and inappropriate behaviour, who they can talk to if they’re worried and how to stay safe online and offline.
